resolutions
2013 is fastly screeching to a halt and I have yet to make a list of resolutions to break for 2014. Honestly, I can say that I hate when people make weight loss their top priority for the new year. Making that your top priority is as good as saying "I will eat 3 bacon cheeseburgers a day until I gain 50 more pounds". Why the fuss over resolutions for January? Why can't a person want to make a change in their life and just do it right then? I've never understood this logic. Unless - new years resolutions were created by procrastinators. Then the logic makes perfect sense. That's got to be it.
This has, however, been a very difficult year for me and for our family. I do hope and pray that 2014 brings about better things in my life. First of all I am searching for Heavenly Father. He was once in my life and in everything I did but I have gotten lost. One day I hope to feel his love in my heart once again.

30 days of pictures - day 21 - a picture of something you wish you could forget
No Brainer!!!!

I wish I could forget this day. I wish I could forget that I was such a disgustingly fat woman. I wish I could forget that I had finally reached my goal weight only to gain back 30 pounds of it back. These things depress me more than anyone can possibly imagine. So, drudging up pictures of things you wish you could forget only makes one think on them more. Thanks 30 day picture challenge. 30 Days of Pictures - Day 20 - a picture of some place you'd love to travel
So this is supposedly Day 20, but we all know that's a lie and a half. HA! I've taken a sabbatical from writing. There is no reason other than laziness, so I won't even waste your time in trying to convince you of some great reason.

Today, I am to choose a picture of some where I'd love to travel. Well, I would LOVE to travel to alot of places but I've narrowed it down to 2 places.

My DREAM forever:

Rome, Italy

Really, does there need to be anything else said? Not only for the romance and excitement of it but for the historical influence alone is enough to have grabbed my attention. Not to mention Italian men are HOT!

Then there is:

Machu Picchu, Peru

Can you imagine a place more beautiful? NOT I, said the little fat girl...

Day 19 - 30 days in pictures
I think the assignment for today is really stupid! I'm to post a a picture and a letter. What the crap??? Am I supposed to chose a letter from the alphabet or an actual letter someone has written? What kind of picture? I thought of posting a picture of Gerard Butler naked but then I figured Richard would get pissed because he looks at my journal with me sometimes as I show him the pictures I've chosen for this quest. So, if you've clicked into my journal in hopes of seeing Gerard Butler naked, I'm sorry to disappoint. (email me personally and I can share that with you privately).

Here is my attempt of fulfilling the request for today.

Day 19 - a picture of a letter and a picture

this is a picture of some letters I found in Walt's Convenience Store in Roby, MO. Which just happens to be where Jack and I would meet almost EVERY morning for coffee. Well, he would drink the coffee and I would drink Dr. Pepper. I Love Me Some Walt's.....

Day 18 - 30 days of pictures - A picture of your biggest insecurity:

(NOTE: the pictures posted are NOT of me)

Hopefully from these pictures you've determined that my biggest insecurity is my body. Obviously the women pictured have no insecurities about their bodies or else they wouldn't be wearing what they're wearing.

I fear that the way I see myself is NOT how others see me. I have super low self-esteem, especially about my looks. I'm not asking for compliments and I don't want anyone of approach me about it or feel sorry for me, this is just ME, this is how I feel and nothing will ever change it. I do have other insecurities, like my singing, writings, and art but my body is the biggest... (get it???)

Day 17 of 30 days of pictures
I've gotten really lax in keeping this 30 days of pictures updated. Everything has been so very crazy busy, I have had a difficult time finding a moment to sit down and think about what I would like to post for the assigned picture of the day. Today is day 17 though (even though it's really not day 17, it's more like day 50 million) I'm to chose a picture of something that has made a huge impact on my life recently. This was actually easy to decide but whether I've wanted to share has been the decision I've had to make. I've decided to share but I will be fairly vague in my writings today.

Day 17 - A picture of something that has made a huge impact in your life recently.

Just to be clear, this is NOT my brain MRI...

I am now officially out of my mind and have gone crazy. It's no secret that I have battled major health issue throughout the years but exactly what I've battled hasn't been shared with very many people. At first devastation lived with me and then self pity but living with those emotions was frustrating and depressing. There is nothing I can do about it so I might as well pick myself up and make the most out of life. So, that is exactly what I'm doing!!! I will continue until Heavenly Father decides I need to stop.

I've also decided to share a picture of something else that has plagued my family for generations. Polycystic Kidney Disease - it's not a well known disease by most but it is very well known by my family. My mother passed away from this disease, as did her father and probably his father, but he died so long ago that the disease didn't have a name yet. My mothers father has 2 brothers with this disease and her brother, Sammy, has this horrid disease as do I. Because of this disease, I have been on High Cholesterol and Blood Pressure medications since I was 23. If you would like to know more about the disease, please visit: www.pkd.org.....

Day 16 - 20 days in pictures
I've had to take a break in my 30 days of pictures due to an awesome course with school, so my 30 days are lasting a bit longer than 30 days... Today I'm trying to play catch up from where I left off so we're going to be picking right back up again at day 16.

Day 16 - A picture of someone who inspires me:

This is my boyfriend, Jack Wade Below. He lives in Missouri and before you get in a tiff, yes, Richard knows about Jack but he's ok with it because Jack has a tractor. So it all works out for everyone. hahaha

I met Jack a little while after I suffered the stroke. I was down, depressed and certainly not feeling very much self worth at the time and then - I was introduced to Jack. From the very first moment, I knew we were going to have a special type relationship. Have you ever met anyone and just KNEW from the very start that you were connected in some sort of spiritual way? That's how it was with him. He was able to pick me up when I was down, helped me brush off the dirt of my uncertainty and helped me walk tall once again. It was because of his encouragement that I started writing again and being myself and he helped me to overcome most of my fears as I struggled to live a normal style life. I love him with all of my heart and miss him greatly now that I live in Alabama. My children are in love with him too. He was an awesome GrandPa to them and they're always begging to go back to Missouri so they can see Jack.

So - Hats off to Jack Wade Below - I love you, you old fart!!!!!

Day 15 - 30 days of pictures
Today as I sit to post my entry the topic has gotten me all giddy. Mostly because I want to do this so very badly. I'm to pick a picture of something I want to do before I die. Well, Richard and I had planned on doing this for our 10th anniversary but it didn't work out, then we said the 15th, same thing. I'm really hoping, hoping, hoping that the 20th won't be a disappointment.

Day 15 - Picture of something you would like to do before you die

I love nature. I've always had this passion for nature. It is so very beautiful to me and it amazes me how people abuse it so. I love to sit in the car and watch out the window, when i'm not being a psycho passenger, and watch the scenery go by. I've enjoyed many hikes through the woods and hills. I've never hiked a mountain but I've hiked a few hills that should have been classified as mountains. haha My boyfriend in Missouri, Jack, gave me a canoe for my birthday before we moved to Alabama. There is no words to describe the feeling I have while watching the beauty of the world slowly float by. So, with all of this being said, it's only natural that I would choose something to do before I die that involved the enjoyment of nature. I can't imagine the euphoric feeling that will come when I view this world from a floating basket up in the sky. It's exciting to me, I'm getting excited sitting here writing about it... My next anniversary is my big 20. I hope I don't get disappointed again. I suppose I could always just do it alone but it's not the same... One of these days, I'll be writing about my adventure. You just wait and see.

Today is going to be a short winded day simply because I do not feel well today but I don't want to get behind and I kind of like doing this. Anyway, I'm to pick a picture of someone I can't imagine life without.

Day 14 - a picture of someone you can't imagine life without

My little family!!!!! They are my life!!!! I enjoy them so very much. We're always laughing and cracking one another up. So, to Richard, Rachal, David, Gracie and Vicki - I Love You! I can't imagine what life would have been like without you in it. I'm sure it would have been BORING!!!

Day 13 - 30 days of pictures
Day 13 - what an unlucky number, well, unlucky for believers in such nonsense but as for me, today happens to request one of my favorite things. The request has to do with music and I have a great love for music and I have a very wide range of taste where music is concerned. I feel it is my duty as a Mother to give my children a diverse experience of music as well. I think it's awesome when I hear one of them singing along with the Eagles or Jamming out to an awesome 80's tune, or when they request the Lionel Richey CD to be played. Again, there are many favorite bands, groups or artist I could continue to discuss that myself and my family love to listen too but I need to keep my entry fairly short today, due to schoolwork and service for a friend. So, with that being said:

Day 13 - a picture of your favorite band or artist -

First of all, 3 of the 6 slots in my CD player in my car are of Robin Thicke. I LOVE the sound of his music, I love the way he makes me feel when I listen to it. To me, it's probably the sexiest music I've ever listened too and it doesn't hurt that he's so very dang good looking.

Next, would have to be Etta James - I have been listening to her music for a couple of years now and oh how I've fallen in love with her voice. Her talent for music is something you just don't hear anymore. The range and pitch are totally amazing to me, especially when she can go from one extreme to the next without even a breath in between.

And then I just wouldn't feel right about leaving out - The Presidents of the United States of America. My children and I have listened to their CD so much that I had to buy another... hahaha So, if you're looking for something to make you laugh and to make you feel good, listen to these guys. Life is fun and simple...

Day 12 - 30 days of pictures
I love so very many things, so again, I am having difficulty choosing what to post as my picture. First of all I wanted to post a picture of my family but they're not things. I have to come up with THINGS... So, I've contemplated my options of things and have come up with several different things that I love and just can't live without.

Day 12 - A picture of something you love.

If you see me, chances are I've got a Dr. Pepper in my hand.

I have chapstic everywhere, in my pocket, in the ashtray of the car, in my bedside drawer, in the kitchen drawer, in my bathroom cabinet, in my junk drawer in my bedroom, in my backpack, etc...

My Mother hat a purple iris plant growing at the bottom of a walnut tree in our front yard and would get greatly upset if we picked the flower to bring inside to her. I know one of her favorites flowers was buttercups, which I really love too, but for some reason when I see a purple iris it brings about memories of my Mom...

ART! I love ART! I don't love it because I'm good at art, I love to view it, I love to touch it, I love to see how others view the world and circumstances. I am a huge fan of all sorts of different styles and phases.

Well, this has been a small silly glimpse into the boring world I call life. As I've said before, I'm not a complicated person and it doesn't take much to make me happy. If you ever think that you may want to give me a gift for no other reason than you just like me, Dr. Pepper is the key to my heart... ;P

Day 11 - 30 days of pictures
This day of pictures disgust me so I really don't have much to say about it other than I absolutely HATE them... HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE!!!!!

Day 11 - Picture of something you HATE!!!

ROACHES:

I went to Woodmen Of The World summer camp every summer from the time I was 7 until I was 16. The summer I was 12 the cabin I was assigned to was the one they had used for storage all the years I had been there. I went to bed and woke up with something scratching my head, I felt around and there were roaches all in my hair!!!!!!!!!! I totally freaked out and so did the girl who our cabin counselor. It was NOT a happy evening to say the least...

MICE:

I hate they way they live, I hate the way they eat into everything in the pantry, I hate the way they leave little presents all throughout the house and I especially hate the way they smell. I can smell a mouse even others can't. I can honestly say that I have had very few mice in my home since I became an adult. I do not play nice at all!!!!! When I was a little girl I had to share a bed with my sister, Amber, and one day we pulled the covers back so we could make our bed together and there was a mouse under our covers at the bottom of the mattress. From that day on, I slept with my feet tucked way up high in the bed, I NEVER let my feet touch the bottom of the bed EVER again.

Enough said on the subject....

Day 10 - 30 days of pictures
Today is day 10, which was another easy picture day to chose but as before I have 2 people I do the most messed up stuff with here in Alabama. I had some amazing friends in Missouri that I did messed up stuff with but I've decided to make today about my life in Alabama. I don't want my friends in Missouri to think I've left them out so I will give them honorable mention: Shellene Beacham, Jennifer Bowling, Yvonne Hurd and Jack Below!!!!! Oh how I LOVED the time we spent together and love reminiscing over pictures and memories that we created. I miss them very much and think about them all the time.

Day 10 - The people I do the most messed up stuff with: Again - Teri makes the cut in the 30 days of pictures, but because of legalities I can't go into detail about the messed up things we've done, so you're just going to have to trust me when I say that over the past 31 years - we've racked up some good times!!!!!

Secondly:
When I moved to Alabama it took me over a year to meet this girl but it's like we've known one another our whole lives... I am not only crazy about her but I love her husband to death too. We spend alot of crazy weekends together and there's never a dull moment when we're together. Laughter is always on the menu. I am so very thankful God placed Felicia and Tracey Wear into my life when he did. I so needed a friend. I can't explain how the quickness of our friendship happened because usually friendships take years to develop but this one was within days. So, to Felicia I say: Girl! You're just as nuts as I am whether you like to admit it or not.

Day 9 - 30 days of pictures
As day 9 rolls around, I can't help but think duhhhh when I read the requirement for the day. Today is a picture of the person who has gotten me through the most. Well, I'm going to chose 2 people just because I can!!!

First and foremost:

My amazingly Handsome husband Richard! I have given him the nickname Handsome and when Vicki was little, instead of Daddy, she called him Handsome. It was so sweet.. Richard has been there for me for over 20 years. It was him who pushed me to push harder after I had the stroke. He never gave me a chance to feel sorry for myself. At the time I thought he was mean and so heartless but now, I know that he had to do that so I would fight harder to make myself do the things my body wouldn't or couldn't do at the time. I learned later that that was the hardest thing he had ever done and that he cried many times when I wasn't watching. I am thankful for the push, I am thankful that he loved me enough to be hard on me and not let me accept the limitations I woke up with. He's such a wonderful Daddy too. He takes such wonderful care of me and of the children when I am down, which is more often than I care to admit. I love him. He's my one and only true love!

Second - I hate the word second. I hate it because it seems as though she played a less important role in my life when that is so very NOT true.

My Girl Teri!!! Teri and I met when we were in first grade and to be totally honest she didn't leave a very good impression the first time I saw her. We were in the primary room at church and she forced me to tie her shoes, which had Winnie the Pooh on the bottom of them. But, once we started playing together the friendship grew and grew and grew and it continues to grow even today. I love that girl! During the hardest part of my life she was there for me when no one else was. I'm not talking about only my teen years either. She has the softest heart of anyone you'll ever meet but don't let her know I said that, she likes to put on a tough-girl act and I just go along with it. hahaha I know I can ask anything of her and she would do it, which hopefully she knows the same goes for me.

So, picking pictures of the people who have gotten me through the most was actually simple. My 2 Best Friends!

Day 8 - 30 days of pictures
Today is a day late because I had such a difficult decision to make. I'm supposed to pick a picture that makes me laugh, well hello, do you know my family??? I have the most hilarious children on the face of this earth BUT I have one child that is funnier than the rest and just about ALL of his pictures make me laugh. When David was little I was worried about him because he would NEVER smile but oneday that smile came out and he's kept me cracked up ever since.

Day 8 - a picture that makes you laugh

People tell me all the time that David cracks them up. He's even told me that he would like to be a comedian when he grows up and I think he has a pretty dang good start. I love you David-Do!

friends coming out of the wood work
Growing up I had 2 friends that were my all time best and favorite friends. One was Teri Copeland and the other was Lisa Toole. It seemed that almost every weekend of my childhood involved one or both of these amazing girls. We weren't the typical little girls and the things we didn't always bring praise upon our heads. hahaha

Lisa moved from Alabama to Utah between our Jr. and Sr. year of High School. I was greatly hurt by this. It was as though I had lost a loved one. We stayed in touch for many years after that through telephone calls and I went out to visit her a couple of times and she came back here as well. Anytime we talked it was as though there was never any time apart. Our friendship picked up right where it left off.

This type of thing happened to Teri and I as well. There was a period of time where we weren't able to see one another as often as we liked and when she finally moved back to Alabama from Texas I was in Missouri and our trips home were often short and I was only able to see her a few times. But, then my family moved back to Alabama and we've hooked back up. It's as though the years apart never existed.

When I moved to Alabama, I went through some very difficult times and Teri was there for me like no one else was. Lisa called a couple of times and I called her as well but in my severe depression I quite making contact with her. It has been over 2 years since we last spoke to one another and I called her today. She was at work so you can imagine her surprise when I was on the other end of her cell phone. Whenever I hear either one of their voices I automatically smile and feel all goofy inside.

Growing up with friends like the two I grew up with was one of the most awesome gifts God bestowed upon me!

Day 7 - 30 days in pictures
Day 7 - a picture of my most treasured item. Let me explain something. I am a very, very sentimental person so I have many treasured items but a few items stood out most of all.

This is Melissa. My Granny Lois gave her to me when I was 2 years old and in the hospital and I not only slept with her until I was 27 but she went absolutely everywhere with me, including my honeymoon and the delivery table 3 times. She is threadbare beyond repair and poops little pebbles in my bed when I try and reminisce about old times. That little dog soaked up many tears and has heard many whispered secrets. She witnessed my bad times and even more importantly my good times. So, of course, those of you who have cared to read this, knew that she would be on my list.

The other item is a chest that Richard sent to me from Egypt. It is covered in Mother-of-Peril and inside are all of my small treasured items. The ribbons the girls wore in their hair as infants during their blessing, a heart shaped rock Vicki gave me, my Papa Pettus' watch, a gaudy ring my Mama Green gave me. The charm off of the first piece of jewelry Richard gave me, all of the teeth my children have ever lost, etc... Stupid little things that mean nothing to anyone but me.

I stole this picture from Johanna because I have yet to receive my copy of the book. I have wanted a copy since it was made but I just recently saved up the money. I am looking for it any day now in the mail and I can't wait to have it in my fingers. My Mother kept a journal for many, many years and my awesome sister-n-law Anna, typed them all up and had them bound into a book. I sat at my Dads one day and read a lot of it and cried. I cry just looking at the picture of the book. I miss my Mother so very much. She was so very loving to me even when I didn't deserve it. I hope and pray that I can be half the Mother to my children that she was to me and my brothers and sisters. We were her life and I hope I have made her proud.

Day 6 - 30 days of pictures
Being laid up in bed all day Sunday with a migraine I was behind a day on my 30 days of pictures, thus, I must post twice today. Lucky You!!!

Today on Day 6 I am to provide a picture of a person I'd love to trade places with for a day. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Does anyone know how hard this is? I've googled many different types of pictures trying to find who I would like to trade places with for a day and my first try was a picture of the ideal woman. I got pictures of Angelina Jolie, Angie Harmon, Michelle OBama, etc.. I truly and honestly don't want to be any of these women. 1. They're in the spotlight 24/7, so there's no privacy. Of course you know what I would do if I was constantly bombarded with paparazzi. I'd eat beans everyday and fart to my hearts content. Take that you slimmy suckas! 2. They have to be extremely careful about what they eat because a gain of even a pound or two will be broadcast in the tabloids. Can you imagine a picture of me in a bikini on the front of the enquirer? This girl loves to eat and I enjoy eating whatever I want, when I want. So, they're out.

Then I googled a picture of a healthy woman. Health is something I have not tasted in a very long time and would love to enjoy it, even if for one day but all of the pictures provided just depressed me so they're out as well.

Then I googled a picture of the perfect wife and discovered there is no such thing..... The pictures provided were either cartoons or fictional TV characters... WHEW! You have no idea how good that made me feel... hahahahaha

So I continued my quest and I finally found someone I would like to trade places with for a day but she's a cartoon. I honestly couldn't find a honest to goodness, true human I wanted to trade places with. I'm not saying my life is perfect but I guess I fear finding out that what I thought was great will be crap!

Day 06 - A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day

For the younger crowd out there: This is Smurfette!

She is the only female in a village of full males. She is constantly flirted with and the males all rush to do everything for her, cook, clean, sew, tell her jokes, read to her, etc. The most strenuous thing I ever saw Smurfette do was brush her own hair and pick through her closet full of clothes trying to decide what to wear. Even the evil villain Gargamel was constantly trying to steal her away. Now, he didn't quite have the same plans for her as her fellow Smurfs but he was still very taken with her none the less. I mean, come on, she's sexy as hell! (well, for a smurf)

Day 5 - 30 days of pictures
Today I have to chose my favorite memory. How can this even be possible? I have had the most interesting and amazing life and it is full to the rim of awesome memories. I've thought and thought and thought but the only thing that comes to mind time and time again is the day I became a Mommy. There is nothing to describe the feeling of holding your first born in your arms for the very first time. My heart was full. Full because in my arms was the living and breathing proof of the love that Richard and I have for one another. May 21, 1994 - Rachal LeAnna Elliott burst into the world weighing a whoppin 9lbs 4oz. I've only felt this feeling 4 times in my life but this was the most memorable. How could it not be? Thanks to her I had to sit on a pillow for 2 weeks...

Ok, so this is a pretty sappy entry. I have to say that my life has never been the same since that day. Rachal was wide open from the get go and hasn't slowed down yet, but I wouldn't want her any other way. Her strength and independence amazes me. From the very beginning she wanted to do it herself. Walking at 9 months and potty trained at 18 months - she just continued to roll and there has been no stopping her. She has and is a blast of joy and laughter in my life and I am so very thankful for having the opportunity of being her mother.
